Education:
- Essential Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing
- Essential recognized nurse diploma in Belgium
Experience:
- Desirable 2 years of previous experience and experience in other NGOs, working in a multidisciplinary team
Competencies:
- You have a real interest in the problems of asylum seekers and are sensitive to the issue of immigration
- You are an active listener, empathetic, open to discussion and collaboration
- You are able to manage conflicts and the stress they can generate
- You have good planning and organizational skills according to the responsibilities entrusted to you; You are solution-oriented
- You work independently while respecting the imposed framework
- You can perform a woundcare aseptically
Languages:
- Essential: English and French.

Description
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides assistance in more than 60 countries to populations in distress, to victims of natural or manmade disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of origin, religion, creed or political affiliation.
Nurse (m/f/x) – MSF Belgium - Brussels
CONTEXT
MSF's mission in Belgium aims to address, through a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, the health needs and key social determinants of the most vulnerable segments of the population, including migrants in transit, undocumented migrants and unaccompanied minors, while proactively engaging in assessing main difficulties and promoting institutional change.
Hundreds of asylum seekers can’t access the Fedasil centers including health services. Considering the health needs of these vulnerable people, MSF has decided to launch a one-month intervention to provide medical and psychological care as well as health promotion activities to asylum seekers who cannot access the Fedasil centers and services.
As a nurse within the emergency project, you will be a part of the medical team and provide a general support. You will provide nursing care, triage and treatment of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Know, promote, implement and follow up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respect medical confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure a first triage on suspected infectious disease (Monkey Pox, Scabies, COVID, Diphtheria…) and initiate the testing and isolation procedures if need be.
- Answer medical questions and refer them to the appropriate people and services for non-medical and medical issues. It implies a lot of communication and follow up with medical and non-medical actors.
- Organize and carry out care treatments according to medical procedures and prescriptions.
- In case of medical emergency, provide first aid and call the emergency services if necessary.
- Report any problematic situations and cases that may arise.
- Share information on a regular basis with colleagues and partners about certain needs and situations that arise.
- Participate in the coordination and medico-psycho-social meetings.
- Ensure data collection and monthly reporting.
- Contribute to the capitalization report of the project.
- Evaluate different kind of wounds, followed by the adapted woundcare.
CONDITIONS
- Expected starting date: ASAP
- Location *: Brussels (Belgium)
- Contract type: Fixed-term contract (2 months) – Full time - Possible extension (project being handed over to a partner)
- Belgian contract; Salary according to MSF-OCB HQ grid
