CONTEXT
MSF’s raison d’être and core activity consists of humanitarian and medical work, particularly in conflict and crisis situations. According to the MSF Charter, the organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict - without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
The OCB is the operational project of nine MSF sections (Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Hong-Kong, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, South Africa, Sweden) and a branch office in Lebanon. In 2022 the OCB is managing 94 projects in 34 countries. The headquarters of the OCB are hosted mainly by MSF Belgium in Brussels, but also by other sections of the OCB group or in field offices.
Médecins Sans Frontières recognizes the medical and humanitarian consequences of climate change and environmental degradation, and our contribution towards it. As the climate crisis accelerates, so too does the urgency of our collective engagement as a movement. All corners of the movement have collectively expressed our determination to align on environmental considerations. Associative motions, statements from the executive and individual initiatives, all recognize the need to mobilize and to act. In 2019, OCB general assembly recognized the need to step up our analysis and response in a coordinated manner; adapt our medical, operational, logistics & supply approaches; allocate the relevant resource and expertise and strengthen interdisciplinary synergies; engage more strongly our internal and external positioning and build partnership. Our OCB strategic orientations 2020-2023 states our need to adapt to environmental change, and different departments & units (such as Environmental health, logistics, supply or HR) are willing to shift to more comprehensive approaches towards climate change as it is reflected in their strategic plans and orientations. The action plan for Climate, Environment and health (CEH) endorsed in 2020, identifies field-oriented action to reduce our environment-related impacts.
These initiatives set the stage for us to galvanize our energies, and ambitions towards addressing the issue of implementation towards effective solutions and transformation.
OCB is looking to recruit a Climate Environment Health Programme Manager to integrate environmental concerns within OCB and to construct/develop transversal actions and roadmaps. This position will work in close collaboration with all departments, including MSF Supply, the Climate Environmental & Health circle and will report to the OCB General Directorate.
