Profil
Background:
- Master’s degree in science or bio-engineering (agronomy, global food systems, ecology, sustainable development, environmental sciences or related disciplines), or relevant work experience related to the topic
- 5 years+ of work experience in a similar field
- Perfect level of Dutch, proficient inEnglish, work level of French is an added value.
- Knowledge of the Belgian political system
- Up-to-date understandingof public and private sector policies on natural resources management (including for commodities) – including the factors that govern and influence them and demonstrated experience in successfully influencing such policies
- Knowledge of existing tools and approaches for the responsible sourcing of commodities related to deforestation and forest degradation is a plus (g. cocoa, soy, palm oil)
- Experience in political and corporate engagement
- Experience with project management

- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong written communications skills, with abilityto produce reports and high-quality, relevant communications materials (g. political briefings, blog posts);
- Proactive and independent individual but also a team player

Description
WWF Belgium and its National Programs department are looking for a Forest & Commodities Program Manager to support the implementation of the EU-wide #Together4Forests campaign policy activities in Belgium.
Forests and other ecosystems are under pressure worldwide as destructive agriculture is eating up our forests. The EU is the world’s biggest importers of agriculture commodities linked to deforestation and ecosystem conversion, fueling global biodiversity loss and climate change. WWF and its NGO partners have been advocating for government and EU actions to address global deforestation for nearly a decade. The campaign calls for meaningful measures at the European and national levels to halt our contribution to global nature destruction and contribute to protect and restore the world’s forests.
You will be part of WWF’s National Programs Department, a team of Policy and Project Officers working on policy and nature conservation in Belgium. You will work closely on the campaign with WWF’s Forest Policy Officer and you will report to the Department Director/Deputy Director.
Your role and responsibilities
As Forest & Commodities Program Manager, you will support WWF-Belgium's advocacy work on sustainable supply chains, focusing on the production and trade of commodities related to deforestation, land conversion and forest degradation. In particular, you will implement the policy and business engagement activities of the #Together4Forests campaign in Belgium. The campaign aims to the adoption of a strong EU-law banning imports of commodities linked to deforestation and ecosystem conversion.
Main responsibilities:
- Advocacy towards policy makers and business on responsible sourcing of forest- and conversion-risk commodities.
- Follow relevant political dossiers and stakeholder positions
- Influence and negotiate with decision makers and stakeholders (politicians at federal and regional level, companies, company federations,)
- Provide advice, information and recommendations on responsible sourcing and supply chains
- Organize and coordinate dedicated seminars, roundtables, webinars according to the target audience
- Develop dedicated communication materials (briefings, letters, policy reports)
- Engage and build alliances with other NGOs and civil society actors at Belgian level
- Develop knowledge on the thematic, and guarantee expert support to the organization:
- Be up to date onthe latest research on commodities and responsible supply chains as well as WWF-International positions.
- Provide in-house expertise on the issue and being able to quickly respond to internal and external requests for information
- Work with the communication team in creating campaign content and other communications to engage the general public and WWF’s members.
3. Represent WWF through defending our positions:
- Represent and defend WWF’s positions in various national (multi-stakeholder) working groups
- Speak and do presentations on behalf of WWF-Belgium at conferences and seminars for professional to lay audiences, occasionally also acting as a spokesperson towards the press and media
- Having and building a strong network around responsible supply chains and commodities
