Profil
- You hold a master and a postgraduate in the field of public health or epidemiology.
- You have strong conceptual and organisational skills.
- You preferably have working experience in Central and/or Southern Africa, including project management, working experience in DRC is an asset.
- You speak and write fluently French (mandatory) and English; knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
- You are able to work independently but are a good team player.
- You have the ability and willingness to work fulltime in DRC, partly (about 80%) in provincial sites.
Description
Public Health manager projects in DR Congo
The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) has been active in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) since more than 20 years and is involved in capacity building projects to improve research in public health, clinical sciences, and biomedical sciences.
Through longstanding partnerships with Congolese institutions, ITM was involved in research activities related to the latest Ebola, Chikungunya and COVID-outbreaks.
ITM has been reinforcing its presence in DRC since 2020 with the establishment of an ITM DRC office, including a team of scientists.
We are looking for a Public health profile to supervise and facilitate the implementation of Public Health related projects supported by ITM within two partner institutions: Centre de Recherche en Santé de Kimpese (CRSK) and Ecole de Santé Publique de l’Université de Lubumbashi (ESP – UNILU). You report directly to the ITM DRC country representative for management issues and to the Senior Scientist in DRC and Project promotors (based at ITM, Antwerp) for content issues.
Job description:
- You supervise, coordinate, facilitate and manage within two partner institutions (ESP-UNILU and CRSK) the ITM supported Public Health capacity building and research projects:
- Together with the local teams you ensure the delivery of results within the given timeframe.
- You identify needs and formulate requests for specific support from more specialised colleagues in the field of epidemiology, demography, health systems and policy research, and social sciences.
- Concrete tasks within the timeframe of the assignment:
- ESP: you facilitate the organisation of a conference on Urban Health at UNILU in 2022/2023.
- CRSK: you support the restructuration of the HDSS platform.
- You coach/ mentor local colleagues within the partner institutions on the subject of project management.
- Together with the ITM DRC country representative, and the partners (CRSK and ESP), you develop and support the implementation of the institutional strengthening process, in close collaboration with the Project promotors.
- You take part in the strategic planning process at partner level.
- You facilitate project reporting.
- You serve as the liaison person between the Financial ITM manager in Kinshasa and the local team to facilitate reporting (No technical, financial responsibilities).
- You liaise between project supervisors in ITM DRC, ITM Antwerp and partner institutions
- You will be based in DRC, mostly in Kimpese and Lubumbashi.
