Profil
Education/Qualifications
- University degree in communications/journalism with an interest in international politics and development; or political science with an interest in communications / journalism;
- Proven experience in communicating advocacy messages and timing them according to political opportunities;
- Previous work experience engaging with social media and/or using media to influence public/EU policies is desirable;
- Good knowledge of the EU institutions and EU policy and decision-making processes;
- Interest in the African political context and ideally of the Great Lakes region;
Skills
- Excellent writing and editing skills;
- Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and take initiative;
- Good IT and computer skills in Microsoft Office and Windows applications;
- Experience or knowledge in updating websites and social media outreach is desirable;
- Knowledge in producing materials for the online environment - notably social media - preferably with photo and video editing tools;
- Fluency, oral and written, in English - preferably English native speaker;
- Good knowledge of French;
- Excellent organisational skills;
- Proven interpersonal and intercultural skills, including the ability to establish professional relations with a large group of different stakeholders;
- Ability in managing deadlines and setting up priorities;
- Proven reporting capacities;
- Team spirit, flexibility, able to work independently and as part of a team.
Description
Created in 2003, the European Network for Central Africa (EurAc) gathers 37 member organisations from civil society in several European countries. These organisations work on and in the Great Lakes region in Africa and wish to tackle the structural causes of under-development and instability in the region. They support civil society organisations in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda in their efforts to promote peace, the respect of human rights and development by making local voices heard and taken into consideration by European Union (EU) policy and decision-makers at all levels. EurAc’s mission is to carry out advocacy towards the EU to contribute to the development and the implementation, by the EU and its members states, of strong and coherent policies promoting peace, inclusive political participation, the sustainable and equitable management of natural resources and the full respect of human rights in the Great Lakes region. Job purpose and conditions
The purpose of this position is to plan, develop and deliver EurAc’s internal and external communications activities. This includes website and social media management, information-sharing with external stakeholders and information exchanges among EurAc members.
The successful candidate is accountable to the Director with regards to daily activities.
The post is based in Brussels at EurAc’s Secretariat. The position is a part time (50%) position with a 9 months fixed-term contract, possibly renewable pending availability of funds.
