Profil
Education:
- University degree of at least bachelor’s level of a relevant study area: veterinary/livestock, agriculture, development studies, international relations etc.
Knowledge and experience:
- At least 3 years of professional experience in fields related to the post (development cooperation, international relations, advocacy, etc.)
- Have experience in development cooperation, preferably in agriculture, livestock or rural development programmes, or development education projects in the North.
- Experience in communication management and/or public relations is an advantage.
- Experience in networking, advocacy and lobbying is an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of English, spoken and written is a requirement. Fluency in French is an advantage.
- Knowledge of any other language in the context of VSF will represent an advantage.
- Relevant software skills for document management in the cloud, website and social media: Google Drive, Dropbox, Mailchimp, WordPress, etc.
- Preferably previous knowledge of VSF International or its members.
- Eligible to work within EU or Switzerland.

- Effectively writing and editing (policy) documents and press releases.
- Ability to listen, build consensus and share opinions, ideas. Diplomacy and animation skills.

Description
- Position: Coordinator of the VSF International network
- Location: Possibility to be based either in Brussels (preferably) or in any location of VSF International’s members headquarter in Europe
- Contract: replacement contract of 6 months, starting early October 2020
- Application deadline: 21st August (interviews will be held on first half of September)
- Short business travels could be organized during the period

Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VSF) International is a network of non-profit organisations working all over the world to support small-scale farmers, livestock keepers and local animal health and welfare initiatives. Our vision is a world of healthy relationships between humans, animals and the environment. Healthy animals are one of the conditions for improved human health, sustainable livelihood strategies, food and nutrition security and the well-being of vulnerable populations. Our mission is to reduce poverty, contribute to food and nutrition security and improve the livelihoods and well-being of vulnerable populations by supporting smallholder farmers and livestock keepers, promoting food sovereignty and implementing the One Health approach.
VSF International is composed of 12 member organizations, located in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland, which implement development and humanitarian projects in over 30 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The network is governed by a General Assembly, which is composed of all the member organizations and represented by the Managers in charge. The General Assembly meets annually and defines the global vision and strategy of the organisation, approves the financial statements and budgets, and elects the Board every two years. The Board is responsible for the implementation of the General Assembly’s decisions while supporting the day-to-day activities of the coordination office. Board members also participate in different thematic working groups, along with other technical experts from the national VSFs.
- Role
The role of the position is to coordinate the activities of VSF International, support members to improve their collaboration, coordinate joint projects and campaigns, lead external communication and represent the network at the international level. The coordinator reports directly to the VSF-International’s Board and General Assembly.
- Main responsibilities and tasks
- Internal communication and coordination between members, knowledge management:
- Facilitate internal communication through mailing lists, online document sharing, etc.
- Prepare internal newsletters (every 2/3 months)
- Collect, systematize and share information about projects or other activities by the members
- External communication, visibility, advocacy, institutional representation:
- Manage and update website and social media
- Prepare and disseminate knowledge products (annual report, policy briefs, technical documents, campaign materials, etc.)
- Follow-up of external networks and platforms: GASL, Pastoralist Knowledge Hub, CELEP, Livestock for Social Development, etc.
- Liaise with external partners and institutions: FAO, IFAD, EU, OIE, ILRI, etc.
- Participate to conferences, seminars
- Coordination of and support to the different working groups:
- Participate in all VSF International’s Working Groups: One Health, Communication and Fundraising, Advocacy, Emergency (meetings every 2-3 months) and assure coherence and non-duplication of activities between WGs
- Support the WGs with specific tasks
- Inform the Board and General Assembly on the advancement of the WGs
- Follow-up development of West Africa regional strategy
- Identification of funding opportunities for VSF International:
- Monitor/identify funding opportunities and coordinate draft of joint project proposals
- Organization of VSF International internal meetings:
- Organise online meetings of the Board and other ad-hoc meetings: facilitation of the meetings, note keeping and writing of report
- Financial and administrative management:
- Assure the fulfilling of all administrative obligations of VSF International, according to Belgian and European legislations
- Prepare, manage and follow-up budget
The coordinator will report to the President as representative of the Board of VSF International. His/her daily work will be monitored by a reference staff member of one of the VSF affiliates where he/she will be based.
