Description
Context
This Project concerns the Non-Medical components (Shelter + NRG + WHS) of the Modular Field Hospital.
Our current Modular Field Hospital (MFH) was developed by Operational Centre Paris (OCP) mainly for surgical interventions in natural disasters 10 years ago following the Pakistan Earthquake (10/2005). The MFH was adopted by OCBrussels in 2011. Since then, it has never been deployed in its “FULL” configuration. Various simulations for its use were prepared for a number of operations but in the end the option of deploying was rarely taken. Some elements of the MFH have been used in South Sudan, Central African Republic & Nepal. One of the smaller configurations was used both by OCP and OCB in the Philippines in late 2013.
Time for setting up the MFH in its “FULL” configuration is often regarded as a brake to deciding to deploy. Another brake to deployment has often been the shelter component of the MFH. The inflatable tents are vulnerable to small tears and have therefore rarely been used in settings where stray bullets are a concern…
Recently OCGreece has spent 2 years developing a new, lighter tool, the Rapid Deployment Surgical Unit (RDSU). The RDSU was presented in Bordeaux last June in its final version. OCG integrated various interesting innovative technical solutions (from the NRG and WHS point of view) but the overall quality of care that the RDSU can provide is regarded as insufficient by OCB Emergency-Pool. Also, the RDSU is primarily (only) for surgical interventions.
Today OCP is redeveloping the MFH into a (smaller) and more flexible tool that will continue to be primarily adapted to surgical interventions.
The OCB E-Pool is interested in a tool that would have a wider scope than just surgery in emergencies. They would like to have the capacity to deploy a flexible tool, one that could be used more often in their operations, whenever new health structures are needed, or, whenever a structure is in need of a quick and efficient upgrade or transformation.
The E-Pool would like to have a tool that is more flexible
- In its speed of deployment
- In size
- In capacity
- In the medical activities possible
And
- Adapted to a wider variety of contexts and settings
- Easily replenished at Emergency Stock level
Mission
According to the specificities expressed by the E-Pool OPS, the Development Manager develops the MFH-V2 Non-Medical Components to best match the requirements
