Requirements

  • Academic background or strong interest in peacebuilding, conflict transformation, or related fields
  • Basic understanding of European institutions and their role in peacebuilding and policy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Interest in advocacy and peacebuilding themes (e.g. Women, Peace and Security; mediation; transitional justice)
  • Proactive, motivated, and eager to learn, with the ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong written and spoken English skills; knowledge of another language (e.g. French, Arabic) is an advantage

Description

About Search for Common Ground 

Search for Common Ground is an international peacebuilding organisation with activities in 35 countries to prevent and end violent conflict and to build healthy, safe, and just societies all over the world. The Belgian entity is an international AISBL with 20 staff based in our Brussels office and 600 colleagues across the globe, 90% of whom are locals to the places where we implement our peacebuilding work.

The Policy Team of Search for Common Ground (Search) is seeking an intern in the Brussels office starting in July 2026. Candidates must be enrolled in an internship program at university during the internship and available for at least 30 hours per week for a period of three to six months. 

Main responsibilities 

  • Assist with the organization of internal and external policy events (online/in person) and meetings;
  • Assist with the travel of Search staff and partners to Europe as part of advocacy and outreach activities;
  • Attend external events on behalf of Search and report back to the relevant teams;
  • Support the creation of outreach materials such as event reports, policy papers and social media content;
  • Research and report on European policy updates in the peacebuilding field;
  • Other tasks related to European advocacy and outreach.
  • Provide other general support to the European Policy Team.

Duration: The intern should be able to commit to working for Search for Common Ground by preference for at least a 3-month initial period. 

Internship requirement: This internship should be part of an internship programme of the university. This internship is unpaid; a small stipend will be provided to cover food and transport costs. 

Location: Brussels, Belgium (fully remote not possible)
