Description

CONTEXT

MSF recognises the medical and humanitarian consequences of climate change and environmental degradation and its contribution towards it. In 2021, the organisation pledged to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline.

The 2019 carbon baseline helped us to quantify the various sources of greenhouse gas emissions for which MSF OCB is accountable and to guide the development of an Environmental Roadmap. The assessment outlines MSF OCB's carbon reduction commitments and explores its different activities to estimate the organisation's carbon emissions in 2019, aiming to give an overview of its global footprint. The report also presents a breakdown by country of intervention. The study proposes concrete monitoring and reporting recommendations in data collection and analysis to accurately track, improve, and institutionalise the carbon accounting exercise for the following years.

In July 2023, OCB´s Environmental Roadmap was validated, aiming to reduce our environmental footprint and achieve our carbon and environmental degradation reduction targets. In parallel, as part of the environmental reduction commitment, in 2023 and 2024 MSF OCB allocated part of its income to implementing initiatives to reduce our carbon and environmental footprint to incentivize and scale-up current operational initiatives that need an investment boost to become a reality.

Based on the commitments listed above and the implementation of the Environmental Roadmap the intern will focus on the improvement of the identification of training related flights follow up OCB´s carbon footprint.
