Professional Profile and Requirement

Qualification

  • University Degree in Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Education or other relevant field


Experience

  • Profound professional Experience in the field of Community Development and Inclusion and sound knowledge of current issues in the field of inclusive development and Disability Inclusive Development
  • Experience in working in a Developing Country, preferably within the Eastern Mediterranean Region
  • Proven knowledge and experience in Project Cycle Management


Core Competence

  • Fluent English (oral and written) is essential. Ability to speak Arabic, Urdu, Pashtu or another local language is a strong advantage;
  • Computer literate (MS office)
  • Ability to follow issues through and manage various, parallel tasks;
  • Good coordinator, networker and communicator
  • Ability to work in difficult environments
  • Able to work under stress

CBM is an international development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world. Based on its values and over 100 years of professional expertise, CBM addresses poverty as a cause and a consequence of disability, and works in partnership to create a society for all. CBM’s vision is: “an inclusive world in which all persons with disabilities enjoy their human rights and achieve their full potential”.
CBM works with persons with disabilities, their families, local partner organisations, alliance partners including UN agencies, global organisations, and Disabled Persons’ Organisations (DPOs).
CBM has been involved from the outset with "VISION 2020: The Right to Sight", a global initiative with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020, and other global initiatives such as the provision of affordable hearing aids, education for all and community mental health.
CBM is also recognised as a collaborating organisation by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Advisor Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) (m/f)

 
Location: Cairo, Egypt (attached to the CBM partner organization “Magrabi Foundation”)

Contract Duration: 2 years

Contract Start: As soon as possible

Objective
To develop CBM’s internal and Eastern Mediterranean Regional (EMR) capacity in the field of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) / inclusive community development. The position holder supports concept development as well as the successful implementation of CBR initiatives and components contributing to CBM achieving its regional objectives. The Advisor CBR reports to the Regional Manager Programme Development EMR.


Main Tasks

Advise and support EMR, the Country Office and project partners

  • Advise Regional Office and Partner Organisations in the implementation of the CBR guidelines leading to inclusiveness
  • Advise on and support CBR strategy, concept and proposal development
  • Check project plans and budget applications related to CBR/ Community Based Inclusive Development Network (CBID)
  • Lead, facilitate and ensure programmatic dialogue on CBR/ CBID within Regional Office EMR
  • Coordinate and organize studies and evaluations of CBR/ CBID projects
  • Provide advice to partner organizations, monitor and follow implementation of CBR projects on a regular basis
  • Represent Regional Office EMR internally and externally as agreed


Advocacy and Alliances

  • Support national and regional advocacy initiatives led by Rights Holder Organizations
  • Support the identification of and cooperation with self-help groups, NGOs and other rights holders and facilitate the enablement of persons with disabilities, DPOs and parents’ groups, so they empower themselves
  • Establish and support networking activities among CBR actors in the region  an d provide advice and support for country and regional CBR networks
  • Support experience exchanges of partner organizations
  • Support the collection of evidence on good and promising practice in CBR initiatives at community level, support its documentation and dissemination with key regional stakeholders for advocacy, fundraising, replication and learning
  • Represent CBM at important events relating to CBR and Inclusive Development



Training and Capacity Building

  • Identify training needs in CBR/ID across the region, make recommendations to and support EMR on how to best address the identified needs as well as design and implement capacity development measures based
  • Support trainings course curricula development for CBR trainings at regional trainings institutes
  • Design and implement capacity development measures based upon identified needs (internal and external capacity building)


Research and Sharing

  • Design and prepare research from a regional perspective (issues and questions of concern relevant for pilot initiatives) 
  • Carry out studies/ assessments, analyze outcomes, share and discuss the findings and lessons learned
  • Prepare publications, ensure publishing of articles in relevant newsletters, papers, on relevant websites and homepages etc.
  • Support the implementation of pilot models
