Profil
The European Network on Debt and Development works for social justice through
research and advocacy work on issues relating to finance for developing countries. Its
particular focus areas are debt cancellation, aid effectiveness, capital flight, financial
regulation and poverty reduction strategies. The secretariat office in Brussels assists
its 54 network members across Europe to understand and intervene in current policy
debates.
The purpose of this role in the organisation is to manage reporting to funders and
financial management of the secretariat office; in addition, he/she will assist the
Director with fund-raising and with human resources issues and will supervise office
management. The successful candidate will have a solid track record in similar work
and the ability to take initiative and responsibilities.
Description
Key Responsibilities
Financial management
Prepare & manage organisational and project budgets.
Prepare quarterly financial reports to the board and reports to
funders (including the EC, governments, Eurodad members, private
foundations).
Identify potential funders and help the director prepare and deliver
funding proposals and coordinate fund raising strategy.
Undertake and supervise follow up of dealings with suppliers,
members, staff, consultants, banks, accountant and auditor: from
negotiating the contracts, to checking and paying the invoices.
Personnel and office management
Oversee salary processing and payment in liaison with the relevant
external agencies.
Coordinate recruitment processes.
Manage team human resources issues, travel, insurances, holiday
database and internal event scheduling.
Oversee the smooth running of the office.
Monitor changes to relevant procedures and regulations and assist
Director to ensure staff, providers, and consultants fulfil
administrative and financial requirements, including reporting to
statutory bodies.
Board and events support
Manage the financial side and support with logistics of major
events organised by Eurodad, including negotiating and following
up with suppliers.
Support Director to convene and manage board meetings and
General Assemblies.
Other communications and logistical support as required.
Role related experience, skills and knowledge
1) Essential experience:
- At least 3 years work experience in finance
- Project management
- Preparing financial analysis and reports and being able to present them
2) Desirable experience:
- Human resources
- Fund raising
- Organisation of events
- Managing EC funded NGO projects
- Living or working in an international environment
3) Required aptitudes, skills and knowledge:
- Very capable in Excel
- Ability to present and manage budgets
- Understanding of the concept of cost centres with some knowledge of accountancy software
- Ability to comprehend balance sheets
- Very good command of English and French
- Good knowledge of the non profit sector
- Computer literate in other main Office applications
- Ability to delegate, use own initiative and work independently
- Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
- Excellent inter-personal skills
- Attention to detail
4) Desirable Aptitudes, skills and knowledge:
- Ability to understand and speak Dutch or Spanish
- Being able to translate small documents into French and English
- Understanding of relevant Belgian legislation
5) Willingness to travel occasionally.
6) Commitment to Eurodads objectives.
Contract details
This is a part-time position for 3 days a week. The contract offered is a CDD (contrat de travail à durée déterminée) for a period of 7-8 months, starting ideally in February 2012. In principle, this is a maternity leave replacement but it might become a permanent and full-time position.
Monthly gross salary on a three-day week basis will range between 1,600 and 1,780, depending on experience. Tax and social security contributions will be deducted in accordance with Belgian regulations. Eurodad also offers hospitalisation insurance, travel insurance and a contribution to a private pension scheme.
