PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
• Under 35 years of age • Demonstrable knowledge of and expertise in migration, in particular migration and development in relation to Africa and Europe context, in EU-AU relations and/or development cooperation (notably the European Union’s development policy).
• At least a Bachelor’s degree in Political science, international development, international relations, public policy, government affairs
• Experience of working in public policy and/or government affairs would be an advantage
• Experience of influencing policymakers and various other stakeholders.
• Good understanding of diaspora and in particular African diaspora communities
• Excellent written and verbal English, French is an asset, with some working knowledge
• Excellent research and analytical skills
• Able to interact naturally with individuals from different backgrounds and points of view and able to build relationships of trust with various types of stakeholders
• Good organization skills and able to work independently and take responsibility
• Strong experience with MS Office suite We offer • 6 month paid fellowship contract

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE
ADEPT is launching a programme of fellowships designed for young African diaspora graduates and professionals to gain skills and experience in a range of areas that will enable them to further develop leadership skills and capacities for development. ADEPT's services and activities are innovative and pioneering in the field of diaspora development in Europe and Africa. For the role of Policy and Advocacy Fellow, the successful candidate will work together with the Policy Advocacy Manager and is expected to achieve, amongst other things, the goals, outputs, and outcomes linked to the services and activities of ADEPT.
 
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analysis of European Union, African Union and United Nations positions, policies, and strategies as regards migrations, the nexus migration and development in particular, EU-AU affairs and development cooperation. Contribution to the definition of ADEPT positions on the aforementioned topics.
Contribution to the elaboration of ADEPT advocacy strategy and action plan for 2020-2023.
Provision of support for the implementation of the annual plan (2020-2021) by notably helping organize the Diaspora Development Dialogue (DDD) in the Netherlands and liaising with various stakeholders.
Contribution to research on the African diaspora. ADEPT Policy and Advocacy Fellowship.
 
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
As Policy and Advocacy Fellow, you have knowledge of and expertise in migration in general and the nexus migration and development in particular, in African Union-European Union relations and/or development cooperation - notably European Union development policy. You are also passionate about challenging perceptions of Africa and have practical ideas on how to do so. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team in Brussels, starting in August 2020
