Profil

Profile • You have a Master degree in relevant sciences (e.g. medicine, sociology, political science, …). A Master in Public Health is a strong asset. • You have knowledge of health systems and/or health policy • You have affinity with chronic diseases and interdisciplinary collaboration. • Experience with vulnerable groups and/or low-resource settings is an asset. • You are familiar with qualitative and quantitative research methods or you are willing to invest in developing these competences. • You are a team-player and have good communication skills. • You speak and write fluently in English. Knowledge of French and Dutch is an asset. • You are willing to travel frequently to other countries for short term assignments (less than 4 weeks).

Description

Research Assistant Department of Public Health – International Health Policy Unit The International Health Policy Unit focuses on health policy and health systems strengthening. There are gaps in access to and quality of care for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, especially for vulnerable populations. Countries try to scale up chronic care and look for the best and most cost-effective ways to do so. The Unit is looking for a research assistant in the field of health systems for non-communicable diseases to work and prepare a PhD thesis within the framework of the SCUBY project. SCUBY is a 4-year European research project in three countries: Cambodia, Slovenia and Belgium. The research objectives are: 1) to analyse the capacity to scale-up integrated care in each context; 2) to develop strategies for a national scale-up; and 3) to evaluate the impact. The Institute of Tropical Medicine, the Department of Public Health (Prof Wim Van Damme and Dr Josefien van Olmen) will coordinate the research consortium, which includes the University of Antwerp (Belgium), the National Institute of Public Health (Cambodia), the Community Health Centre Ljubljana (Slovenia) and the University Medical Center Utrecht (the Netherlands). ITM will support the development of scale-up strategies in each country and it will perform a multi-case study evaluation of the scale-up. Assignment • You will conduct the research related to scale-up. • You will develop research protocols. • You will support the preparation and implementation of scale-up through policy dialogues. • You will perform collection and analyses of research data in the three countries, in close collaboration with the country teams. • You will perform a multi-case study analysis of the scale-up. • You will collaborate with the other partners in the consortium and attend the international consortium meetings and related events. • You will contribute to implementation and dissemination of the project. • You will prepare a PhD-thesis in the field of scale-up chronic care within a period of 4 years. • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment under supervision. • You will co-draft grant applications for additional funding. • You will coach and support students. • You will contribute to teaching and research within the department of public health.
